I go to sleep tonight, angry, disappointed, frustrated, terrified. Regardless of the final numbers, Am3r1ca showed it's whole a$$ tonight. But rage alone won't fix this. Our neighbors, co-workers, friends, and in some cases, family told us tonight that cheaper gas prices were more important to them than preserving our rights and freedoms. Their fear of "others" was too strong to stand up against someone who would run over them without thinking twice. That giving up the ability to select judges was less of an issue than running the risk of taking orders from a woman. So much work is needed to even remotely fix this. Has to go beyond party lines, generations, geography, etc.

Using a new venue is always a wild ride, but accessibility matters, and accessible Portland venues are few and far between! The cast and crew rolled with the hiccups like the pros they are. From the insane attention to detail by @miss.nicole.pdx , @ninanightshade , @annanymph.official , @kisavonteasa, and The Eggboy, to the incredible stage slayage of @queerlyfemmetastic 🔥the talent was stacked! And, a special shoutout to @thisisfanniefuller for live singing a challenging song and being an excellent co-emcee. Enormous applause to @megz.madrone , @obscurafoxburlesque , @fernandfogadventures, and @mxmizrae for stage managing, box office, tip tarting, and handling front of house like the boss babes they are. What to say about @whatthefunkfest . This festival has my whole heart for so many reasons. But one reason most folks don't know is that it helps me get through the trauma of one of the hardest weeks of my life when I lost my Mom in September of 2018. So this year, after losing Dad, I wanted to honor them both with this act that is a love letter to them both. The music, Tower of Power, was Dad and his hometown of Oakland. The color story was a nod the Fox Tower lighting, but really was all Mom. I am still processing what it felt like to be in a competition, but I couldn't have asked for a better place to do one. The most important thing to me was sharing this act with folks who I consider family. Thanks for these captures Miss Catwings. And thanks for providing such an amazing space to share this kind of work @pucksaplenty , @stayuplateshow , and @_stormychance_ #FortheCulture

Sheer will. By this point in my act I could barely see out of either eye. TL:DR huge shoutout to the cast Booklover's Burlesque Banned Books edition who rallied around me to get me on stage and helped get me packed up after I came off stage. Especially @deva_pdx and @kisavonteasa (thank you for the video!) That was the scariest drive home I have ever made because both eyes were streaming with tears and my right eye was just a foggy blur. Thank the Ancestor I made it home unscathed. Went to urgent care first thing in the morning (via Lyft!) and it turned out I had not scratched my cornea as we thought, but had a virus (not pink eye). Shoutout to Kaiser in Beaverton for taking care of me so quickly and getting me the relief I desperately needed. My body went into fight mode all day Saturday and I slept between eye drop doses. And I mean slept. Today, I am so much better and can function with both eyes open. I went hard all July and apparently my body decided we needed a reset. Once again, I am super grateful for everyone who took care of me Friday night and checked on me yesterday. Love you, fam. Thanks as always to @lacyknightly123 for having me, I love Booklover's Burlesque so much!

Saturday was my five (!!) year burlyversary. And this past weekend was a tremendous way of celebrating! Booklover's was truly one of the first regular shows in Portland that was a goal when I started. In part because BeeBee was actually born three years earlier as a published short story author. I have been fortunate to both perform and read for the shows in the past (yes, even my own work), and truly fortunate to have been in casts for both year's of the Annual INTERNATIONAL BOOKLOVER'S BURLESQUE FESTIVAL.  It was an amazing weekend filled with old burly friends connecting with online friends for the first time and meeting fabulous new folks!
